A long time contributor of the fun stuff to do in the Riverside, Avondale area this establishment has been serving the public for 4o years. They have recently moved to the new King Street location and with the move comes some wonderful additions to their offerings. They still offer the unparalleled service and knowledge of the beverages they sell but have added a delightful menu to accompany your favorite wines, cocktail or beer. One nice feature, you can choose from any of the store stock wines and have them served with your meal,offered for a small corkage fee or from the quite robust wine menu that is available. On Friday night they offer wine tasting from 5 to 8 pm. I would suggest early arrival this is a very popular event and seats fill up.
We ventured out to give the food a try, and were served tasty, well thought out dishes nicely presented. We started out with the Deviled Eggs. We chose the nontraditional offerings with the mix of Chicken Liver Mousse Egg w/Bacon Jam, Asiago Cheese Grits Egg w/Sausage and Humus Egg w/Sun-dried Tomatoes and Parsley. I must say as much as I like the traditional this dish was grand.
Along with the Eggs we were tempted by the house made bread and dipping oil. Bread was warm and yeasty and the oil was light sweet with a delightful combination of herbs and spices. We also added the Roasted Beet Salad w/Fresh Grated Horseradish
For the last dishes of the night we chose the Lamb Meatballs and Shrimp and Grits. Both of these dishes are a must order again when we are back. Lamb that actually tastes like lamb, moist in a rich tomato broth, served on slices of the home-made bread, Shrimp and Grits, spicy and a nice amount of Asiago cheese added to the grits, just enhanced the perfect smoothness.
Over all this was a delightful find in a well established neighborhood and well worth the trip.
