This was an accidental find for me. I actually stopped at a store across from Celino’s, so naturally my curiosity was on high. For those readers who live in this area of Jacksonville, it’s painfully evident the majority of restaurant choices are chains. You can have every, hamburg, chicken, pizza, taco available, but few stand alone, family owned spots. I had to do this. I ran in gave it a quick once over, had a quick chat with one of the staff, picked up a menu and left. Once home and settled I perused all the offerings. Very extensive, appetizers, salads. wings, NY or Sicilian Style pizza, calzone. hot and cold subs, baked dinners, pasta dishes, wraps and a children’s menu. Dessert, beer wine, soft drinks round out the offerings. I was only in for the pizza. I settled on the small, sausage and black olive, and an order of the chicken wings. I did ask if I could have all drums, and with out even hesitating the woman said sure, and when I told her I would pay extra she said “not necessary” It has been my experience, when one tries to get the meaty drums, the restaurant want to charge, not here!
So off I go, to get my treats, here are some shots of the interior.
Once home I opened my treasures, and was very happy, wonderful aromas filled my kitchen. Drums on point, plump, slightly crisp, and the hot sauce was just that. I had taken a container of blue cheese, but never used it, the chicken and sauce was just right on it’s own.
Not the pizza, but the time the box was opened it probably had been sitting for 30 minutes, I was a little dismayed by the look of it. Somewhat overcooked by my standards but once we started eating, all the angst was gone. This was a great pie, crust thin just a hint of oil on the top, high quality cheese, flavorful and not fatty sausage. We had not complaints. Plus we all know pizza is best served right out of the oven.
Lunch today was the left overs, and they were still delish! So the verdict, this is definitely a place to try. If you live in this area it may be one of the best pies to be found. I will be going back to explore the other menu options, and dine in.
