Greater ArlingtonThis was a sweet little find today. It was mentioned on some social media site I was looking at, and well it needed checking out. Nested in the corner of a strip mall, go figure, behind Wendy’s, if you did not go to that mall or some one gave you heads up about it, well you never would discover how great this place is. No frills, order at the counter, dine in, take out, the food will be delivered to you when cooked. All the dishes are made in house, and the recipes you may be familiar with have the unique twist of the chef owner and it is delightful.
The menu includes classic favorites along with several other dishes of the Mediterranean not usually found in smaller spots. We started off with the Fattoosh Salad, the “original” Mediterranean salad, mixed with Sumac and Toasted Pita Chips. Fattooush is a Lebanese version of bread salad that includes crumbled pita chips, (fattooush means “crumbled bread” in Arabic) and all the ingredients are tossed with a lemon juice and olive oil dressing that’s seasoned with powdered Sumac. It is a most unusual taste, yet it delights the mouth. Next we went with the Addas soup, as well as the Fuol Medammas The soup, with Red Lentil base is a very flavorful soup. Full of nicely cooked carrots and onions we were pleased with the new flavors. Served with Pita and lemon slices, perfect for dipping The Foul was the dish I was excited about. Warm Fava beans, slow cooked, blended with lemon, garlic. garnished with parsley, tomatoes and onions, was a dish I experienced when I was in the UAE. I was so taken with it anytime it was on a menu I ordered it. I almost forgot about it until today. This is an ancient dish, and I did learn the Fava bean is one of the oldest domesticated legume. This is a filling dish and often eaten during eaten during Ramadan. My companion was not as impressed so I ate as much as possible, then took the remainder to go. For our last dish it was a flip and the Lamb Shawarma won. Nicely seasoned and grilled shaved leg of Lamb slices topped with Tahini sauce over Basmati Rice and a side Mediterranean Salad. The portions here are very hardy so you may plan on some to go boxes. Lamb plentiful, tender and well seasoned, and the sesame in the Tahani was most enjoyable. Basmati rice is a favorite and cooked perfectly.
