Atlantic Beach, FL 32233
I saw this spot a few weeks ago when I was on a Pho quest. Situated in the same strip mall, as the restaurant where we ate, I remembered a friend telling me this place was like the old-time diner with a funky vibe thanks to the Colonel. Lots of “stuff” on the walls, mismatched everything, Formica table tops, those wonderful chrome stools and checkered floor, and a mix of clients. How right he was. I felt transported back to my childhood.
Menu is a combination of breakfast, served all day, burgers, wraps, Philly Cheese Steaks, which I heard is superior, wings, sandwiches, and an array of small bites, no beer or wine options available. I went there expressly for the burger, but breakfast was very inviting and it will be my choice on the next visit. I settled on the Blackened Cheeseburger with jalapeno and a side of fries and a diet coke. Simple but as it turned out this burger was better than most of the “gourmet” burgers being sold around town at only $9.00 it’s a steal.
I had a brief encounter with the chef a total character, from the Colonel Mustard restaurants who is affectionately called Colonel. You probably will not find many restaurants like this still in business , I do know a few in New York and when I am home I do my best to visit. Truly a destination not to be missed, humble but fun, a place to relax and have some darn good food. Make the trip to the beach, take a few friends so many dishes can be ordered and tested and be ready to have fun.
