Atlantic Beach, FL 32233 Monday night is food recovery night for me depending on the level of over indulgence on the weekend, but when my favorite dining bestie suggested Ocean 60 well, I am weak. This is a date worthy spot at the beach, classy yet relaxed, two dining rooms, two bars, out side seating and live music that does not make you want to run for the door. After a brief look at the menu, choices made this is what we chose; both of us selected the Ocean 60 Wedge, with Blue Cheese dressing diced bacon, julienned carrots, sliced red onion, golden raisins, croutons, shredded cheddar blend, sliced radish & Blue Cheese vinaigrette. I forget that Iceberg served correctly makes for a tasty but not filling salad. The raisins added a sweetness, croutons crispy and full of flavor. High marks from both of us for presentation and flavor.
My companion, chose an unlikely dish for him the New England Style Beach Bake, a baked Cod Filet topped with a Bay Scallop, Blue Crab & Lobster Gratin served over roasted red bliss potatoes, seasonal vegetables & a roasted corn coulis.
Flavors well layered, and not overwhelmed by the gratin, each piece of fish cooked perfectly, veggies crisp. Perfect in every way stellar presentation.
I chose two appetizers for my dining pleasure. the Charrcuterie Board and Crispy Soft Shell Crab.
This was a big disappointment, considering the meats and cheeses available a total uninspired mix all around, supermarket quality.
Now the Soft Shell Crab, a different experience. Tasty, the crab meaty and sweet the sautéed plum tomato combined with sage & pine nut brown butter made for a delicious sauce, another perfect presentation. Soft Shell Crab is one of my favorite dishes not often found on menus due to short season availability. Like Stone Crab, you have to get them when there available.
I picked the crab apart and ate it with my fingers, this was a lip smacking dish, I was wishing it was entrée sized that’s how good it was.
This is a great spot, if it’s date night, the beach is across the street for a romantic walk, or if your with your crew start with happy hour and dinner outside is perfect for people watching. Put Ocean 60 on you places to eat list, I do believe it will be one of the favorites.
