Poppy’s Italiano

The holiday called for a day at the beach and then a casual dinner.  Ever on the quest for palatable Italian we heard Poppy’s could satisfy our cravings.  There was only one  other couple dining so it was very quiet .  Nice interior table cloths, bright with booths and tables.

My companion  and I decided to share a dish and appetizer.  We started with Poppy”s Blooming Bread, Dutch Crunch Bread stuffed with provolone cheese served with olive oil & vinegar.  I asked if the restaurant baked their own bread and was told no that the bread was shipped in  from New York.  The bread has a unique mottled crust that proved to be most delightful.  The  warm melted Provolone had a very pronounced strong taste that we both enjoyed,   a small salad consisted of arugula, nicely diced well ripened tomatoes dressed with a high quality olive oil and balsamic  the perfect accompaniment.

We agreed on the Chicken Scarparella,  gravy sautéed with Italian sausage, mushrooms, roasted red and green  peppers, black & green olives, onions and artichoke hearts,  there is a choice of red or white sauce, we went with the red and requested linguine pasta.  This proved to be a good choice,  nicely plated with a good sized chicken breast,  well flavored sausage, the artichoke may have been fresh but doubtful,  flavorful green peppers  provided an added depth to the sauce  which was some of the best I have been served anywhere in town.  If we had any negatives the pasta needed salt, everything else well balanced.

My thoughts, there is no doubt in my mind I will return to Poppy’s to try out other menu offerings,  this is the only Italian restaurant, I have said that about if that counts for anything. So let me encourage you to get the crew together for  lunch or dinner, but don’t miss this spot.

    • I sent you a compliment on the Yelp review, it’s highly unlikely that will be a spot for me to try, esp after your review. Good job
