Taco Libre

14286 Beach Blvd
Jacksonville, 32250
Fun little find on my way back home, Taco Libre in a shopping center at San Pablo and Beach, easy in and easy out makes it a desirable location.  Once inside my attention was drawn to the great art work and colorful decor.  Decked out with large images of the iconic wrestlers that participate in “Lucha libre”, is  a wall festooned with actual masks and other pieces familiar to Mexico decor then add to that the colorful dining area  with comfortable booths plus table and chair seating, it was a feast for the eyes  I felt good just being there.
unnamed20161003_161611Not knowing what service was I ordered at the counter, got my drink and took a seat I soon found out by doing that it was assumed my order was to go, once we sorted that out, I was offered the standard basked of chips and a bowl of salsa while I waited for my order. Nothing special about the chips or salsa, but I was hopeful. What I did order the guacamole and queso dips were received with mixed reviews.

The guacamole was fresh, with nice size chunks of avocado, tomato and jalapeno, one of the better guacamole dips I have tasted in town. On the down side the queso was pretty bland, with little flavor or body, I left that in favor of the guacamole.

Dip Trio

For my next choice a flight of tacos from the specialty list, Surf and Turf, Ceviche, and Siracha Shrimp Taco.  All three of these tacos satisfied.  Surf and Turf, combined ample amounts of skirt steak, jumbo shrimp, topped with avocado then drizzled with siracha ranch.  Meat tender, shrimp popped in my mouth it was cooked to perfection, fresh sliced avocado offered a smooth feel on the palate while the siracha added just enough heat to make it all come together.  The Ceviche was hands down my favorite,  packed full with shrimp, and the mixture of onions, peppers and mixed herbs and spices, it was total pleasure.  Equally as pleasing the Siracha Shrimp, a combo of deep fried shrimp, tossed in homemade buffalo sauce then topped with shredded cabbage was most delightful.  I believed I made three good choices.

Trio of tacos

Would I come back?  Yes, first reason, they serve Mexican street corn, but only on the weekend, that alone would bring me back.  I would also like to sample the Enchiladas and Quesadillas two of my favorite menu items.

This is a happy little spot locally owned, which I always support. Service was efficient and friendly, the restaurant certainly has everything going for it and I would highly recommend you try it.  Get the family together (think kids menu) or the besties and order many dishes so everyone can try something different.
